College Sport Young Sportsperson Of Year Awards

Best wishes and congratulations go Mele Hufanga who has been shortlisted as a prize winner at the annual College Sport Awards. Rugby Union player Mele, a member of the Auckland Storm Women’s team (who are New Zealand Champions) and a member of Auckland Schools Team (who are also New Zealand Champions) has been nominated for female rugby player of the year 2011.

 

AFL

We have introduced AFL (Aussie Rules) as a new sport this year to our list of sports teams. Year 9 and 10 students have been training with the New Zealand representative players in preparation for the Auckland Schools Competition.

Held on 12 November at Southern Cross we finished second in the competition after losing to Kelston Boys in the final. Congratulations to all boys that took part and represented their school so well.

Notable performances from:- Loveta Taito Taivale, Ofa Finau, Oikoumene Paisami, Patrick Herbert, Tevita Kaufasi and Jonathon Feterika Tavale

 

 

Waka Ama

Thanks to the wonderful support of the Cook Island Outrigger Canoe Club, we have been able to train our Year 9 and 10 students for the Auckland Championships again this year. All students who participated were taking up the sport for the first time and must be congratulated on their performances.

Our mixed team made the championship final placing fourth out of thirty-two teams, whilst the girls team finished second in their plate final.

Notable performances from:- Xakaria Kuvaji, Sanshirlea Apera, Abendgo

Tuigamela and Solomua Ma Chong.

 


 

Year 9 Athletics

We have been proud to have been hosting a new athletics imitative for Year 9 students at school. The competition, run by Counties Manukau Sport requires schools to select teams of students to compete in a range of athletic events. The winning athlete is awarded points for their position, these points are added up to give a school total.

In a group containing Papatotoe and Aorere our teams have done very well to reach the final at Kings College on 28 November.

Notable performances from:- Frank Fangupo, Nikola Bedggood, Olivia Poloniati Junior,  Jan Fataalii, Hope Schuster and Darcey Samuels.

 

 

New Zealand Secondary School Athletics

Best wishes and good luck go to Patrick Herbert and Francis Tapusoa who will be going to compete at the New Zealand Secondary School Athletics Championships in Wellington over the weekend of 9-11 December.

Both boys are Auckland Champions in the events they will be competing in, Patrick in the junior long jump and Francis in the senior discus.

 

House Challenge Swimming Gala

We are all looking forward to the annual Year 9 and 10 swimming gala on Friday 2nd December. House points will be on offer as students compete in individual and relay races for boys and girls.

 

Breakaway Holiday Programme

During the long Summer holidays we are hosting another holiday Breakaway Programme on the school site between 23-27th January.

All students in Years 7-10 will come home with a flier, next week (28 November) that needs to be returned to the school to secure your child’s place.
