Our Learning

Our Learning

Our students are at the heart of all we do at the Junior School and we believe in having our “Learners in the Drivers”. Students understand where they are at and where they need to get to in their learning and this is done very effectively with the use of the progressions.

Some critical questions our learners are asked:

  • What are you learning to do as you are reading
  • How will you know when you have learnt to read with fluency?
  • What did your teacher do in this lesson to help you?
  • What will you learn next?

These questions keep our students focussed and they also give teachers an indication to modify their practice so that students are achieving their full potential.

The contexts for learning are carefully selected and we do try to use our local context as much as we can and also use contexts and examples from far and wide in order to expose students to the wider world. The aim is to provide rich contexts across all learning areas. We do believe in using resource people from our community as this is empowering for students. There are also opportunities for our students to interact with different role models throughout the year.

We encourage our students to have a “can do” attitude and take risks in all they do.

Learning can be challenging but we all know that if it challenging, then only we are learning. We have a team of teachers who continue to motivate, encourage and nurture our the learning journey.
